Grey stared at the man, feeling mildly queasy.

“The prisoners eat the rats?” he asked, with a vivid memory of sharp yellow teeth nibbling at his plum cake.

“Only when they’re lucky enough to catch one, sir,” MacKay said. “Perhaps the cats would be a help wi’ that, after all. Will that be all for tonight, sir?”

(Voyager - Chapter 8, Honor’s Prisoner)

I freakin’ LOVE Lord John Grey!! He is, by far, one of my favorite Outlander characters. Seriously. Whenever my mom and I discuss the novels/TV series, I literally refer to him as Lord John “Bae”....I’m not kidding. So I kind of had to involve him in one of my posts! Plus, my family has been craving fruit pie lately, so this dessert works out perfectly.

Unfortunately, there weren't any plums in the produce section when my mom went to the grocery store. We substituted the plums with frozen fruit. So instead of Lord John Grey's plum upside down cake, I made Lady Mary's blueberry and raspberry upside down cake. Which is equally delicious.

There was no recipe listed on the Outlander Kitchen website, although it is included in the “Official Outlander Companion Cookbook.” The website includes a link where you can purchase the cookbook on Amazon (the Kindle version is only $8!) The recipe I followed was from SimplyRecipies.com (Here’s the full link: https://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/plum_upside_down_cake/ )
